How We Match Dogs and Adopters

At Almost Golden, our goal is simple: the right dog in the right home—for life.

Every dog is unique. Personality, energy level, medical needs, background, and comfort with children or other animals all matter. We take the time to understand both the dog and your household so we can make thoughtful, lasting matches.

Careful placement is at the heart of what we do. We want every adoption to be a true forever home.

Adoption Fees: What to Know

Almost Golden Rescue is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit. We do not receive government funding and rely entirely on adoption fees and donations to support our work. Adoption fees are not a purchase price—they help cover the real costs of rescue and care.

Fees vary based on factors such as age, breed, and length of stay. Puppies and highly sought-after dogs may have higher fees, which helps offset the significant expenses of caring for older dogs, special-needs cases, or retired breeder dogs—whose medical care often exceeds their adoption fee.

When you adopt, you’re not just welcoming a dog into your life—you’re helping make rescue possible for the next one.

What Else Should I Know?

Almost Golden is run entirely by volunteers, and we appreciate your patience as we balance adoption inquiries with hands-on care for the dogs.

To ensure fairness and safety, we are unable to discuss specific dogs until an adoption application has been submitted. All dogs are microchipped and up to date on vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies are adopted with a spay/neuter agreement.

Thank you for understanding—and for supporting rescue done right.

The Adoption Experience

Adopting from Almost Golden is a thoughtful, supportive process designed to set everyone up for success. After your application is reviewed, we’ll talk through your lifestyle and preferences, consult references, and carefully consider dogs in our foster program that may be a good fit.

Once a match is identified, you’ll meet the dog and, if it feels right, finalize the adoption. From there, your new companion officially becomes part of your family.

These precious dogs are worth the wait.
